<p>The Sierra MatchKing .224" 77 grain HPBT is a match-grade reloading component bullet built for precision rifle handloads and not loaded ammunition. Sierra designed the MatchKing line around competitive accuracy and this 77 grain Open Tip Match (OTM) hollow point boat tail (HPBT) projectile was tuned specifically for Service Rifle competition in the M16A2 and AR-15A2 where it has set many new national records.</p><p>The .224" diameter and heavier 77-grain weight put it at the top end of the .223/5.56 bullet range so it needs a barrel twist rate of 1x8" or faster to stabilize correctly. Sierra kept the 77 grain profile at an overall length that still loads into standard M16 and AR-15 magazines giving you a long-range bullet weight without losing magazine-length feeding. The jacketed lead bullet has no cannelure which suits the careful seating that match reloaders rely on for consistent groups. Each box holds 500 bullets enough to load a full competition season or a long stretch of load development.</p><p>The MatchKing is a target bullet first and foremost. Sierra does not recommend the MatchKing or Tipped MatchKing for most hunting work. Some shooters run it for varmints but the design will not deliver the same reliable explosive expansion at equivalent velocities that Sierra's Hornet Blitz or Varminter bullets provide.
